in fogin fog

and in the fog the trees obscured through the thick mist; shaped like featureless faces. and in the foreground a solitary boat tied to a dock. the tree branches like arms cradling a baby, encircling and protecting the small frailty. on the surface frozen in time were leaves and nothing moved, not even the reflections across the water. only stillness ensued. right then and there i let it swallow me whole, i let it devour my soul.
